Paris Presents "Nuit Blanche" - A Cultural Marathon
If you’re a night owl and are in Paris this Saturday, October 7th, you’re in luck. Paris is hosting “White Night 2017” (“Nuit Blanche”), a marathon of dance, music and art exhibits in usual and unusual places. What’s the best part of all this? It’s free. That’s right. The events will be happening from 7 pm on October 7th to 7 am on October 8th, twelve hours of culture, culture and more culture.
Here are just a few examples of what Paris has planned for this “White Night.” Within walking distance from Apartments du Louvre at Châtelet, the contemporary French choreographer Oliver Dubois has invited 300 dancers to take over the Canopée des Halles and stage a “movement.” The Pinault art collection will be shown at the Saint-Eustache church. A DJ will be in residence at the Centre Pompidou from 8 pm to 2 am. Yes, you can literally dance the night away!
If you head up north, you could take in “Rail Ocean”, where unused railway tracks in the 18th district of Paris (rue Riquet) will be hosting unique duets of musicians and DJ’s performing from 7 to 7. Or you could visit the Philharmonique de Paris and the Cité de la Musique at La Villette. The Grand Palais will be showing an Irving Penn exhibit and playing music from the Great American Songbook. At the Institut du Monde Arabe, the lattices (“moucharabiehs”) created by Jean Nouvel, will be illuminated until 2 am – not to be missed.
Pulling an all-nighter seems the best way to enjoy Paris on October 7th. Put on comfortable walking shoes; grab your camera and head out to any of the 50 events that are happening in this incredible city. Go out and enjoy what Paris has to offer – for free.
